Become familiar with Excel spreadsheet basics. Learn best practice from expert tutors.
This course is designed to familiarise the inexperienced user with the basic concepts of
Excel and its business uses. The essentials of building and editing a spreadsheet, identifying different types of data, correcting mistakes and copying formulae within the spreadsheet are covered, as is the ability to print information. You will learn how to make a colourful and informative series of charts from your data.
This is a one-day course running from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm.
Training is hands-on and tutor-led.
We provide a comprehensive training manual, lunch and certification.
Courses run at both Swansea and Cardiff locations.
This course can be run as a company specific option either at your site or our own.
Course Content
Getting Started
Screen familiarisation and accessing on-line help.
Spreadsheet Basics
Identification of columns, rows and cells. Quick ways
to move around the screen. Saving your work.Data Entry
Entering text, numbers, simple formulae and current
date/time. Deleting/editing entries. Copying
information and using AutoFill. Using relative and
absolute cell addresses.BODMAS
Order of operations when performing calculations.
Formatting Entries
Use of fonts, bold, underline, patterns, colour and
borders. Use of the AutoFormat feature. Setting
numbers to fixed decimal places. Adjusting column
widths. Inserting rows and columns. Use of the
AutoComplete and AutoCalculate features.Printing
Previewing and printing the spreadsheet.
Charting
Selecting data to make charts. Overview of different types of charts. Editing charts.
Prerequisites
To gain the maximum benefit from this course an attendee should have a basic knowledge of Windows and be able to use the mouse.
Qualification
This course covers material from the standard European Computer Driving Licence (Module 4, contributes towards an ITQ level 2 / ECDL: Extra qualification and the Microsoft Office Specialist Core Excel syllabus.
