Course Overview

This course is designed to give an overview of Microsoft macros and the powerful uses of Visual Basic for Applications.

This course focuses on using VBA in Excel. It provides all the necessary tools required to create modules, view their contents, to create or edit macro source code, dialogue boxes and perform any other functions related to writing and maintaining VBA programs.

This is a VIRTUAL two-day course running from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm.
Training is hands-on and tutor-led.
We provide a comprehensive training manual and certification.
This course can be run as a company specific option.

  • Course Content

    Getting Started

    Introduce fundamental concepts of event-driven programming.

    Development Environment

    Become familiar with the VBA development environment.

    Visual Basic Editor

    Become familiar with the Visual Basic Editor.
    Change the properties of an object; add a module to a project; write the code for a procedure and then run it and use the Object Browser to search procedures

    Data Types

    Understand the data types available in VBA.
    Manipulate data by declaring variables of different data types; combine data by using expressions; use functions to accept input and display output; and declare variables and procedures with the appropriate scope.

    Working with Functions

    Be able to use built-in functions and write new functions.


    Promote tightly written code and good programming practices.
    Create an error handling routine in case things go wrong with VBA code.

    Basic Constructs

    Introduce the basic constructs using logic operators, decision-making and repetition constructors.


    Record and edit a Macro.
    Use different techniques in order to run any macros available such as keyboard commands, the use of the Quick Access Toolbars or Buttons


    Use decision structures to create procedures that make decisions; and use loop structures to perform repetitive tasks.

  • Prerequisites

    To gain the maximum benefit from this course the delegate should be able to:
    Navigate, edit and manage Excel workbooks
    Format worksheets and workbooks
    Understand the difference between absolute and relative references
    Understand the basics of Excel formulas and functions e.g. Sum, text functions
    Understand the concepts of a Macro and its capabilities

    Delegates will need a PC / laptop with a reliable internet connection and audio and video capability.

  • Qualification

    A Computeraid certificate of achievement will be awarded.
