Course Overview

Get to grips with the Internet, understand the social media phenomenon and establish a web-based email account.

This one day course will familiarise delegates with the many uses of the internet and the world wide web including how to find the sites you need - business advice, shopping, price comparision, gain an understanding of social media - Skype, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and use an online email account to send and receive messages.

This is a one-day course running from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Training is hands-on and tutor-led.
We provide a comprehensive training manual, lunch and certification.
Courses run at both Swansea and Cardiff locations.

This course can be run as a company specific option either at your site or our own.

  • Course Content

    Internet Terms

    What is the Internet and how did it start? The World
    Wide Web explained. What is the Cloud? What is Wifi?

    Connecting to the Internet

    The hardware and software needed to ‘surf the Net’.
    What do I need to connect to the Internet? Internet Service Providers defined and what questions to ask when choosing a suitable provider.
    Costs involved in setting up your Internet
    connection.

    Browsing the Web

    Using Microsoft Internet Explorer, familiarisation with
    and modification of this browser screen.
    Understanding and entering web addresses and
    setting up a preferred (default) home page. Using
    hyperlinks and Search Engines. Setting up
    ‘Favourites’. Downloading files.

    Safety Online

    Awareness of data security when purchasing from
    websites and general discussion of Internet related
    scams - how to detect and avoid them.

    Social Media

    An overview of some popular social media sites including Skype, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

    E-Mail

    Setting up an Internet based e-mail. Creating,
    sending and reading/replying to mail. Using the
    Address Book. SPAM explained!

    What's Next?

    Future development of the Internet including the Cloud.

  • Prerequisites

    This course is suitable for beginners with no prior ICT knowledge.

  • Qualification

    This course covers material from the standard European Computer Driving Licence (Module 2) and contributes to an ITQ level 1 / ECDL Essentials qualification.

  • Web Design
    Build on the knowledge gained on this course to design your own web site using WordPress or Dreamweaver and Flash.
